Amelia opened her eyes. The room was strange×奇妙な、変な. Where was she? This was not her home. This was not Australia.
She looked at her hands. They were small. They were not her hands. She stood up. The floor was cold. She went to the mirror×鏡. A girl with long, dark hair looked back. She had brown eyes, not her blue eyes!
“Who… me?” she tried to say in English. The words felt strange.
A woman came in. “Hana-chan,” she said. “You overslept×寝過ごした again! It is already time for school. Please eat your breakfast quickly.”
Amelia understood Japanese! But how?
“Who… you?” Amelia asked. The English words were hard.
“Hana-chan, are you okay?” the woman asked. She touched Amelia’s forehead×おでこ. “You don’t have a fever×熱.”
Amelia understood. She was in Japan. She was… Hana.
“Okay,” Hana said. Now the Japanese words were easy. She remembered a school uniform×制服. She remembered miso soup.
“I’ll be downstairs soon,” Hana said. She smiled. The woman left.
Hana took a deep breath. How? Why? What now?
